MindshareLA
Over 150 Unique Events in LA Since 2006
MindshareLA holds monthly workshops, salons and movie screenings that gather hundreds of Angelenos for evenings of inspiration and interaction. Our most popular salon-style events include short eclectic presentations, live music and interactive installations. Since 2006, MindshareLA has hosted over 150 events and become a mecca for intellectuals, artists, scientists and other forward thinking characters looking for inspiration and connection across this vast city.

Dougie Lux
Names hold great power. Dougie Lux was a three year character experiment. After returning to the US from a yoga teacher training course in Thailand I decided I needed a radical lifestyle change. As a testament to that intention I changed my name to Dougie Lux, a pseudonym that roughly translates from the Gaelic for “dark water” and Latin for “light” as dark water light and became an aspiration to strive for. In the three years that followed I completely transformed my life: I moved to a wilderness community in Oregon where I learned carpentry and restored an old cabin; I analyzed and tweaked all of my behaviors, healing my psychology and my body; and in my proudest achievement I wrote a book about my explorations of communities in Central America during the winter of 2018. Douglas Campbell has since reemerged as an entrepreneur and event producer while Dougie Lux continues to explore his untapped capabilities.

Trillium, Oregon
Trillium is a wilderness community and retreat center where residents, organizations, and visitors have the opportunity to experience pristine nature, develop unique skills and share knowledge in a beautiful setting.
In 2016 a group of friends formed an LLC that bought the 80 acre property, intent on restoring it, creating community and developing legal and financial frameworks for shared ownership. The coming years will see the creation of various types of programming such as wilderness camp-outs, educational workshops and retreats designed to inspire the mind, body and spirit.

Cross Campus
I worked with Cross Campus as their Experience Director, helping them grow from one locations to three. After beginning at their first location in Santa Monica I moved on to oversee the construction of their second in Pasadena while also working closely with the architects and designers of their third space in Downtown L.A.
Cross Campus’ network of Los Angeles coworking and office spaces allows professionals and creatives the workspace flexibility needed to focus as well as collaborate. Our shared office spaces are open, accessible environments where tech startups, digital media agencies, and freelance professionals from every industry can work together. We have locations in Santa Monica, Downtown LA, Pasadena, and South Bay.

Syyn Labs
Syyn Labs was formed from within the Mindshare LA community to bring together art and design with science and technology. Coined “The League of Extraordinary Nerds” by Fast Company Magazine, Syyn Labs is a Los Angeles-based creative collective that fuses the worlds of technology and interactive sciences with artistic mediums to design and construct visually dynamic spectacles that inspire thought and provoke conversation – such as building the RGM music video for OK Go – which has been viewed over 30m online views.

The Tuxedo Travels
The Tuxedo Travels was one of the earliest projects to combine social media with global adventure as a means to raise money for charitable causes. The project was born from the fateful encounter of two odd characters: Heath Buck and Doug Campbell. The six month journey, which began on April 1st 2007 followed a 6000mi route from Hong Kong to London during which the pair wore only tuxedos. They finished on the 18th August having raised thousands of US Dollars for charities and organizations along the route.

The SmART Gallery
The SMART Gallery contains more than just artwork – it is a gallery of the mind, celebrating some of the highlights of our culture. SMART holds space for artists and makers of all kinds as well as scientists and creative thinkers of our day. SMART showcases installations and digital artwork as well as pieces with a particular focus on technical skill. The lounge doubles as a speaker forum. There are also a variety of workshops available.
SMART: where Science Meets ART.

Cause It's My Birthday
Who? What? Where? To celebrate 30 years of life and to ring in their next decade, friends Doug Campbell and Sloane Berrent set out on an ambitious plan; seven fundraiser parties in seven days in seven cities across America! And in typical Tuxedo Travels style, they did it all in formal wear!
Why? The goal was to raise $20,000 for malaria nets for orphanages and refugee camps in Northern Ghana. This will be accomplish in conjunction with Netting Nations, a registered 501c3 organization.

Mindshare50
Mindshare 50! In May 2012, hundreds of the most influential and cultured Angelenos gathered in the Arts District of downtown to celebrate Mindshare LA’s 50th consecutive month of salons and workshops!
The three day event featured diverse presenters, musicians and performers centered around a full day of inspiring talks, entertainment and art as we collectively explored “WHAT COMES NEXT?” for ourselves, our culture and our planet.

ProjectFresh Presents
ProjectFresh Presents was a 6 month experiment launched as a complimentary event series to the already much acclaimed Mindshare LA. It offered a forum for topical, focused discussion and an opportunity to explore how we can turn inspiration into action within our community.
The popular discussions were soon followed by other nights of cause-based and independent movie screenings which also brought in cast, crew and experts for Q&A panels. The series proved so successful that it incorporated into the Mindshare LA brand.

The Mindshare Lounge
The Inaugural Mindshare Lounge & SmArt Workshop Series debuted at Lightning in a Bottle in 2013. It was a celebration of Art, Sustainability, Music, Performance, and Life Itself! The festival attracts musical talent & renowned artists from around the world as well as providing a forum for dozens of speakers and workshops.
LIB invited Mindshare to create its own space so we held workshops and talks as well as running the (un)official Art Walks!

The Tuxedo Tyrants
Since 2008, The Tuxedo Tyrants have dressed up in their fanciest garb and terrorized numerous neighborhoods of LA, with decadent behavior and tall tales of their exploits.
But when the founders decided to bring in some charitable fundraising, they ushered in a new era of hedonistic benevolence. And so, an effort to win back some community kharma for their years of mischief, and while still infusing their legendary brand of fancy debauchery, the Tyrants began teaming up with local organizations to benefit the community. There’s nothing more refreshing that waking up with a hangover, knowing that you did it for the kids!
