I geeked out on HeyGen’s new API access over the weekend to make a 100% programmatic daily news avatar with green screen, AI background, graphics, and auto-captions by stringing together various additional apps in Make: ChatGPT for scripting, ElevenLabs for audio, DALL-E for imagery, Creatomate for putting it all together and then auto-posting to all platforms (Youtube, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and X)… The result isn’t perfect (more avatar training needed) but it’s still pretty cool! My automation is pretty complex, but it could be as simple as just sending an email with content you want it to read to trigger this whole thing!
Here’s the example:

In a recent update from HeyGen, Avi Yaffe introduces a new set of API subscription plans that cater to a wide range of users. These plans are designed to be independent of the existing HeyGen video plans, offering flexibility for users across different tiers, including Free, Creator, Team, and Enterprise. This development is particularly notable for those who need more than what the standard HeyGen platform provides.
Understanding the Core Technology
The core technology here is the HeyGen API, which stands for Application Programming Interface. This tool allows different software applications to communicate with each other seamlessly. With HeyGen’s API, users can integrate the platform’s features directly into their own systems or applications. This means you can create videos, translations, or avatars without directly using HeyGen’s platform. Additionally, the API can be used to connect interactive avatars to stream on personal websites or Zoom calls, automating tasks and streamlining workflows.
Benefits of the HeyGen API
- Flexibility: Users can access powerful avatar and video features through a standalone API subscription.
- Automation: The API allows for task automation, reducing manual effort and saving time.
- Integration: Users can integrate HeyGen’s features into their own systems, enhancing their existing workflows.
Potential Challenges
While the HeyGen API offers numerous advantages, there could be challenges related to integration complexity, especially for users who are not technically inclined. Additionally, ensuring seamless communication between different systems might require technical support and expertise.
Possible Business Use Cases
- Virtual Event Platforms: Develop a platform that uses HeyGen’s interactive avatars for hosting virtual events, offering a more engaging experience.
- Language Learning Apps: Create an app that uses HeyGen’s translation and avatar features to provide immersive language learning experiences.
- Customer Support Solutions: Build a customer support tool that integrates HeyGen’s avatars for personalized and interactive customer service.
As we consider the introduction of HeyGen’s new API plans, it’s clear that this technology holds significant potential for enhancing user experience and operational efficiency. However, as with any technological advancement, it’s crucial to weigh the benefits against potential challenges. By doing so, businesses and individuals can make informed decisions about how best to leverage these tools to meet their unique needs.
