This is the first weekend in a while that truly feels like an easy Saturday morning with nothing to do… So good time for a mini life update! In short: While much of the world is in turmoil, I am grateful for my immediate environment, my friends and family, and my great new job
It’s funny to look back on last year. I worked incredibly hard on a project I intended to pursue all through 2026. During the first batch of sales calls, I realized it would be more work than I expected. Then, in a strange turn of events, I was hired by one of the people I was originally trying to sell to. It is remarkable how things pan out.
Instead of managing a rotating list of external clients, I now manage a portfolio of internal companies. My roster is consistent, which allows me to go deep and implement real changes within their organizations. Because it is a holding company, I balance various projects and teams, which keeps me mentally stimulated… And I’m even able to apply some of the technology I built last year within my new role. Cool!
Now instead of building an audience on YouTube, I share content and host weekly office hours for our internal teams. I choose different topics and tools to share each week. The feedback and validation I receive from these teams is even more fulfilling than what I formerly experienced through social media. Someone recently told me: ” I love watching your brain work. You’re like a Swiss Army knife of technology,” which felt like a good assessment!
Work aside, the transition to family life in Florida has largely been a joy. Instead of planning for festivals or international travel, I am focused on home life, choosing the right linens or sampling the best candles to create a cozy environment. Rather than digital nomading, I am looking for fun family vacation opportunities. It has been refreshing to trade the West Coast lifestyle for the Southeast and reconnect with friends on this side of the country.
Life still has its challenges. Stepping into full-time “stepdad-hood” with a teenager and moving in with my partner of seven years is a big transition. At times, it feels like a transformational workshop. However, when I reframe this as an opportunity for growth and a new experience for a person who loves learning, it is clearly a positive thing.
With this new stability, I can turn my attention to one area that needs work. With all the computer work last year, I packed back on some pounds that had previously taken me a while to lose. I am not overly concerned with the number on the scale, but I would like my clothes to fit a bit more comfortably by the summer
While much of the world feels chaotic and uncertain, it can be helpful to return our attention to our immediate environment. When we realize that we can only control so much, especially related to issues far from our proximate vicinity, we can instead tend to our personal relationships, focus on any neglected areas of our lives that need attention, and put energy into our local communities where we can see immediate change take place. We can practice compersion for those living their best lives, feel compassion for those who are struggling, and express deep gratitude for what we have right here in this moment.
Much love from the wild Southeast!
